Olympic Trade Mission Promoting the Chinese Product
2008, Book + DVD

Millions of things we surround ourselves with are labelled ‘Made in China’. These products have saturated world markets and have become part of our everyday environment.
But how exactly do the Chinese know what items we like to put in our windowsills, and how are these products manufactured?
In March 2008, the Olympic Trade Mission Promoting the Chinese Product (i.e. Melle Smets and myself) embarked on a quest to China to find out where all those decorative knick-knacks come from.
We wanted to see where the cute photo frames, candle sticks, tourist souvenirs and christmas decoration are made: Chinese products which you find in nearly every house in the world.
Upon returning home, we were invited by Museum De Paviljoens (Almere, NL) to show a video about the Chinese Product. Moreover, the museum commissioned a book about our epic journey to the source of the plastic river. Click here to find out more.
